Wooden Ships Comments on this Laurent Giles Vertue
Vertue No. 47, designed by Laurent Giles and built by Harry Feltham of Portsmouth in 1952. All teak planking and non-ferrous fastenings.
She has a very well documented history of extensive cruising throughout the 50's, 60's and 70's with trips to Scotland, France and the Baltic. She was laid up ashore in 1985 and remained there for 30 years until she was taken in by the present owner, a retired time served boat builder who started an extensive and meticulous refit which last 2 years. The bottom end was completely rebuilt with the keel off, the centreline re-fastened, planking re-caulked, the deck replaced and all new engine, systems, rigging and sails.
She is now in very sound condition, beautifully presented and ready to sail.
The Vertue is one the most iconic British yacht designs of all time, examples of which have voyaged the world and proved themselves as incredible sea boats with capabilities far beyond their size. This particular boat is a very nice example, painstakingly refitted to a very high standard.
