Wooden Ships Comments on this Albert Strange Gaff Yawl
Designed by Albert Strange, very typical of his designs, and built by P McKeown of Belfast in 1907. She was intended for cruising around the Western Isles of Scotland and did this for many years with her early owners.
Through many troubled years which involved sinking, recovery and subsequent abandonment, she was rescued and bought by retired boat builder John Krejsa who carried out a very extensive and lengthy rebuild in Woodbridge. This work was well documented and done to a high standard. Unfortunately however the boat has only been sailed a few times since the completion of the rebuild and a new deserving owner is now sought to continue the care of this delightful Albert Strange yawl.
She has been fitted with a clever Torqeedo electric propulsion system as John Krejsa did not believe in tarnishing her with a modern diesel inboard engine. This is a satisfactory solution for coping with modern marinas and moorings and provides ample quiet propulsion for the east coast tides.
A stunning boat with a well documented and interesting history, Mist is in need of a caring, understanding new owner to pick up where John Krejsa sadly left off and to appreciate the time and effort that went into her rebuild.
