Boat Description

This Westerly Merlin is one of the last built fin keel versions and is in our opinion, presented in really good condition for its age. Designed by Ed Dubois & widely recognised as faster than the Konsort with better headroom & accommodation, the Merlin was a very popular model. This particular boat has clearly been well maintained by its Owners & comes well equipped with Hot water Calorifier, Eberspacher Cabin Heating, Colour Chart Plotter, VHF & Tiller Pilot. She has the original Volvo 2002, 18 HP engine that is winterised and serviced annually as well as a Rope Cutter & 2 blade fixed prop. Her cabin is clean and tidy with volumes of space, a good size aft cabin, fore cabin, comfortable saloon, galley & generous heads as well as Nav Station with Plotter & VHF. She comes with a Fully Battened Main Sail, new in 2008, a Furling Genoa & Cruising Chute. She is currently lying Southampton.

Built from 1984 to 1992, the Westerly Merlin was the second design that Westerly commissioned from Ed Dubois, with the aim of higher performance and a more modern hull form than the Laurent Giles designed Konsort. Although smaller than a Konsort, the Merlin has what may for most people be a better interior, with a good sized double aft berth. The Merlin is also regarded as being generally faster than the Konsort. About 170 were built during the production run, and like all Westerly's the hulls were moulded to Lloyds standards, and each hull issued with a Lloyds Hull Construction certificate.
Brokers Comments
In our opinion, this Westerly Merlin is a boat that has clearly been loved and cared for by her current owners. This 6 berth, very comfortable fin keel cruiser packs a huge amount of accommodation into her relatively short length, whilst still being a very capable & somewhat faster craft than her predecessors. She has a generous aft cabin, separate double forepeak, large saloon, good sized heads, Nav Station & functional Galley. This particular boat has the luxury of hot & cold pressurised water & Cabin Heating, vastly extending its usability and practicality as a family boat. In addition, it is relatively easy to sail with a fully battened mainsail with lazyjacks, furling Genoa & Cruising Chute with lines led back to the cockpit. It also has a colour plotter, VHF, Tridata & Tiller Pilot
Presented in a clean & tidy condition her hull was stripped back to bare only a few years ago & she has recently painted non slip decks as well as the smart navy & red Westerly hull stripes to compliment her off white GRP Hull. This Merlin is a boat that you will be proud to own that will give you & your family a lot of pleasure and enjoyment at a very affordable price. She is currently lying Southampton & is available for viewings through Aspire Boat Sales.
