Wooden Ships Comments on this 40' Classic Gentleman's Yacht
Built in 1947 in Buckie, Scotland by Heard and MacKenzie known for building commercial vessels since 1903. This ship differed in that she was purpose designed as a gentleman's motor yacht for Mr Lea, a descendant of one of the founders of Lea and Perrins Worcestershire sauce.
She was cruised throughout her life before being bought by the present owner in 2015. He has embarked on an refit in the years since, tackling all major structural issues that were affecting the ship.
The refit was extensive but to summarise; the top two strakes were completely replaced with the third strake partially replaced, all new stanchions with new capping rails and the wheelhouse was professionally overhauled. The Gardener engine has been well maintained and both the engine and gearbox have been professionally overhauled. More detail is available on request.
This is a fantastic opportunity to acquire a purpose built motor yacht with lovely lines and an interesting history. The refit now needs finishing; interior still could do with refitting and updatingand the onboard equipment such as electronics may need to be updated.
Soild and sound, there is a 2017 survey available.
